Classifieds: For Hay, For Help, For Information

Six small advertisements this week. The Gazette accepts classifieds by post, by hand at the Old Library, or by leaving a sealed envelope in the wooden box outside the Reading Room. The Gazette does not publish telephone numbers.

• FOR SALE - Small rectangular bale, meadow hay, well-kept, fifteen in number. Reasonable offers. Apply Waraich & Sons, Old Car Road.
• WANTED - Help with a small kitchen garden, two mornings a week, in exchange for vegetables. Plot behind the Old Vicarage. Ask at the Reading Room for Mrs Pell.
• FOUND - A black umbrella with a curved handle, on the bench at the Halt. Held at the Bell & Sluice for one calendar month.
• LOST - A small green notebook, possibly dropped on Bell Street near the corner of the Sluice Path. Reward in kind at the Reading Room. Contains nothing of value to anyone except its owner.
• INFORMATION WANTED - From an unnamed correspondent: any information regarding a chain found in 1991 in the cellar of a Bell Street property during renovation works. The chain is of a kind associated with sluice gates. Communications may be left, sealed, at the Gazette office, addressed to the Editor, marked “private”.
• THANKS - The family of the late Mr R. Pell wish to thank the neighbours who brought cakes to the Reading Room during his last week, and the Drainage Committee for the loan of the chair.

A note on the fifth advertisement this week: it has been placed by a correspondent who does not wish to be named. The Gazette has agreed to print it on the understanding that any reply will be treated as private and not published. So far, no reply has been received.
