A selection of forthcoming events from the parish calendar. Dates given are those on which the event will be held in the year. Dates are not given for private gatherings, which the parish does not record.
This Year
- Crier’s Walk. The autumn quarter. The Town Crier walks the parish boundary, stopping at the four boundary stones to proclaim the date and the Council. Meet at the Bell & Sluice at 09:00. Free half pint on completion.
- Parish Council meeting. Public gallery open from 19:00 in the Reading Room annexe. Agenda to be posted on the Council door seven days before.
- Drainage Committee meeting. Public observers permitted. The Pumping Station, from 10:00.
- Parish Council meeting. Public gallery open from 19:00 in the Reading Room annexe. Census reconciliation paper expected.
- Parish Council meeting. Public gallery open from 19:00 in the Reading Room annexe.
- Morrowfen Silence. One minute at noon, at the war memorial on the Common. All residents invited.
- Parish Council meeting. Public gallery open from 19:00 in the Reading Room annexe.
Next Year
- Drain Day. The seventy-ninth. Begins with the Morrowfen Silence at noon at the war memorial; continues with a parade to the Pumping Station; ends with an evening gathering at the Bell & Sluice from 19:00.
- Crier’s Walk. The spring quarter. Meet at the Bell & Sluice at 09:00.
Annual traditions
- Drain Day. The Saturday nearest 14 February.
- The Morrowfen Silence. At noon on the Saturday nearest 14 February.
- The Crier’s Walk. Four times a year, on the second Saturday of March, June, September and December.
- The Bell & Sluice Toast. “To the Town”. Glasses tipped, not raised.
- The Annual Letter. From the Mayor to the Drainage Committee Chair, on the subject of the sluice.
