The Common
Open ground- Location
- south of Bell Street
- Used as
- common land, with the war memorial
The Common is a small area of common land south of Bell Street. Mostly grass. The war memorial stands at its centre, on a low plinth. The Common is the site of the Morrowfen Silence, observed at noon on the Saturday nearest 14 February, and the assembly point for the Drain Day parade.
The war memorial
The war memorial lists eleven names from the First World War and four from the Second. It was rededicated in 1948. The Mayor has, for some years, been quietly in favour of a careful restoration; the Council has been quietly unsure where the money would come from.
The Drain Day assembly is at noon; see What’s On.
