Railway
Location
Old Car Road, east of the town centre
Opened
1903
Trains
one each way most days, plus a Saturday market train

The Halt is a single-platform railway stop on the Aingersby to Norham line. It opened in 1903. There is one train each way most days, plus a Saturday market train. There is one shelter, and a bench which is, by long tradition, painted heron-white.

The bench

The bench is repainted, by volunteers, every spring. The paint is mixed to a particular shade, which June Harkness has in her notes. The bench has been painted heron-white since at least 1948. The tradition is recorded in the parish minutes.

The Halt is shown on the town map.
