The Seventh Drain outflow is a concrete headwall at the north-west edge of the marsh. It is the point at which the Seventh Drain discharges into the marsh. It is publicly accessible by a short footpath from the Old Car Road. A sign warns against swimming. Nobody does.
The headwall
The headwall is dated 1947. The drain itself is, on the Improvement Commissioners’ plan of 1826, considerably further south. The discrepancy is the subject of Della Finch’s careful article in the Gazette, and of the longer discussion at the mysteries page.
Visiting
Visitors are asked to keep to the footpath, to take litter home, and not to attempt to investigate the headwall itself. The Drainage Committee has, since 2022, been carrying out occasional measurements in the area. Anyone observed interfering with the sluice gates will be asked to leave.
