St. Within’s is the parish church of Morrowfen, dedicated to St. Within, about whom little is known except that he was commemorated in this fen by the monks of Aingersby Abbey in the late twelfth century. The present nave is largely thirteenth-century. The tower was rebuilt in the restoration following the 1947 flood.

The bell

The bell of St. Within’s was taken by Parliamentary forces in 1643 and returned, by a route that is not recorded, in 1644. The vicar has noticed a small maker’s mark on the inside of the crown that is not a Morrowfen mark and not an Aingersby Abbey mark. She has not shown it to anyone.

The churchyard

The churchyard was in use as a burial ground until 1947. The newer cemetery is east of town on the Car Road. Visitors are asked not to feed the ducks.
