Iris Bell runs the Reading Room, in the old village reading room on Bell Street. She took the lease in 2021 and has run it on strong tea and careful scones since. She is the Gazette’s most reliable volunteer.
On the parish
Iris was born in Aingersby and grew up partly there, partly in Morrowfen. Her father was a builder who worked on the 1991 renovations of the Bell & Sluice. She has never quite asked him what he saw. He is, she says, “not a man you ask twice”.
On the Gazette
She has been pressing, gently, to be allowed to write a column. The Editor has not yet agreed. The Gazette does, however, use her scones at meetings.
The Reading Room is profiled at Places.
